Outdoor Community Daily

2/26/12 - This 62% merino wool for warmth, 36% nylon for durability and 2% spandex for stretch ski sock hits the mark for me.  I’m hard on socks.  Skiing to me often means a predawn cross country outing to exercise the dogs, followed by a skin up one of the local mountains and then a full day of lift served runs.  Oh yea, how about dinner in town before heading home.  All of this without the benefit of a change of socks. Tough work for one pair of socks, but the Ski Pro Light has held up all season, without no sign of wear and no odor bombs upon removing my boots.

2/16/12 – Tim L. says “Socks are important. For most weather, they’re vital. For travelers doing a lot of walking and hiking, they can make or break how well your feet hold up.”  About Point6 he continues, “With merino you get a lot of useful properties for travelers: temperature management, odor-resistance, and warmth without the itch. Point6 pairs have also got all the properties you’ll find in a quality pair of socks like mesh ventilation where you need it and reinforced cushioning where you don’t.”

2/1/2012 - Peter Duke, CEO and founder of Point6 talks about running socks “Experienced runners know that a blister can put you out of commission for several days or longer. They understand that investing in a good merino wool sock that is engineered to really fit and support the foot is worth it.”

12/20/11 - We’d also advise matching them (Blundstone boots) with a pair of Point6 socks. Yes, socks. We know they’re not sexy, but we learned just how important the right socks can be on a recent hike when the packing was done in haste, and blisters ensued. We would’ve been wiser to rely on Point6′s Hiking Tech Lightweight Crew, a pair of which we’ve been testing and loving. The fit is excellent and the softness is genuinely rare. Yes, there are other great Merino socks on the market, but there are a few reasons we dig these.  1. There’s no funky toe seam to irritate or rub. 2. The ring-spun wool makes them feel super silky, so there’s less friction. 3. Point6 is moving its production back to the U.S. We’re not jingoistic enough to think everything that’s made in China can be made in the U.S.A., but when a really good product can be made here, we’re happy to champion their cause. Now maybe Point6 can make some really nice sweaters, too? $19

What’s better than a stocking in a stocking? Not much, especially if it’s the Ski Pro Light from Point6. Designed by ski- and boot-fitting pros wit light cushioning around the heel and shin. It comes with a proprietary Achilles pad to anchor your heel in lace and is made fro temperature-regulating, moisture-controlling merino wool to keep your tootsies warm and dry – even on that zero-degree day atop Mt. Werner.
